How the attendance calculator works

The maths

Current attendance = attended ÷ held × 100.

Attending x more classes in a row gives (attended + x) ÷ (held + x). EduKit solves that equation for your target and rounds up, because attending part of a class is not an option. Missing m classes gives attended ÷ (held + m), and the tool finds the largest m that keeps you at or above the target.

Why the streak is longer than people expect

Every new class raises both the top and the bottom of the fraction, so your percentage climbs slowly when you are far below target. Climbing from 80% to 90% takes far longer than climbing from 80% to 85%. Checking early in the term — while the streak is still short — is the whole point of this tool.

Worked example

40 attended out of 50 held = 80%. For a 75% target, you are already safe and could miss 3 more classes (40 ÷ 53 = 75.5%, but 40 ÷ 54 = 74.1%). For a 90% target, you must attend the next 50 classes in a row: (40 + 50) ÷ (50 + 50) = 90% exactly.

Frequently asked questions

How many classes do I need to attend to reach 90%?

If you have attended a of h classes and attend x more in a row, your new percentage is (a + x) / (h + x). Solving for a 90% target: x = (0.90 x h - a) / (1 - 0.90). From 40 of 50 (80%), that is (45 - 40) / 0.1 = 50 classes in a row.

How is 'classes I can miss' calculated?

If you miss m more classes, your percentage becomes a / (h + m). The tool finds the largest m that keeps you at or above your target, so the number shown is exact, not a rough guess.

My college counts attendance per subject. Does this still work?

Yes — run it once per subject with that subject's held and attended numbers. Requirements are usually enforced per subject, so check each one separately.

What if my target is 100%?

Then a single past absence makes it unreachable, and the tool will show a very large streak. A 100% target only works with a perfect record so far.

Does this count future scheduled classes?

The streak answer assumes you attend every upcoming class. If your timetable has, say, 30 classes left this term and the streak needed is longer than that, the target cannot be reached this term — worth knowing early.
